The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Matthew Groover can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

The lighting of a Memorial Candle not only provides a gesture of sympathy and support to the immediate family during their time of need but also provides the gift of extending the Book of Memories for future generations.

John Farrell, CMSgt, USAF (Ret.)

Groover family, I was so sorry to hear of Matt's passing. I was the First Sergeant (Shirt) for the 317th Recruiting Squadron from 2002 - 2005, which was headquartered in the Washington, DC metro area. I saw Matt last in 2012 at his Shirt's (CMSgt Ray Lagasse's) retirement ceremony at Arlington. What I remember about Matt is he had such a great sense of humor and a very quick wit. Whenever we were visiting the 360 Recruiting Group in Massachusetts invariably there would be a get together/social/dinner where all six squadron Commander's, Shirt's, and Superintendent's attended. The uniform of the day was a dress collared shirt, dress pants, and dress shoes. For whatever reason Matt always dressed in a suit. As a result we affectionately referred to him as "The Senator" and the nickname stuck with him the rest of his tour. :) The world is a little less cheerful with Matt not in it but I relish in the great memories I'll always have.
