Obituary for Quentin F. Lawler Jr.

Quentin F. Lawler Jr.
Quentin Lawler Jr., 81 passed away peacefully on August 30, 2015 at his home in the company of his family.

Quentin was born on December 28, 1933 in Thoroughfare, Virginia, near Haymarket, the son of the late Quentin Lawler Sr. and Pauline Carter Lawler. He attended Osbourn High School and graduated in 1952, and was employed by the Journal Messenger before entering the Army in 1953.

When he returned to Manassas he went back to work for the Journal Messenger news paper where he stayed for many years before taking a job at Piedmont Federal Savings and Loan .

Upon leaving Piedmont, he found many other ways to stay busy, including working a year as a dispatcher for the City of Manassas Police Department, framing pictures and finally, working at J.E. Rice Hardware for almost 20 years. He enjoyed working at Rice’s, serving as a link to the past for the many lifelong customers loyal to the store.

He married the love of his life, Rosemary Ann Janaskie in Shamokin, PA on June 15, 1963 and they spent 52 years together, raising a family and enjoying life. They enjoyed their summer vacations at Nags Head, winter trips to visit friends in Florida and occasional trips to Tennessee to visit relatives.
Quentin had a passion for life and all the experiences it had to offer. He loved nature, music of all kinds, literature, sports, and gardening. He found great joy in being around other people, especially his family, and had a way of making friends no matter where he went. He loved to play the guitar and his acoustic “jam sessions” during Nags Head vacations were legendary. He loved golfing with his closest friends and especially enjoyed the tournaments hosted by the Manassas Men’s Club.

He was a past member of the Manassas Rotary Club, the Manassas Men’s Club and was a member of the Manassas Volunteer Fire Company for over 50 years. He acted in the Manassas Community Theater and played guitar in a jazz band called “The Dance Masters.”

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rosemary Ann Janaskie Lawler, one sister, Jane Elzora Lawler Strong of Gainesville, Va., and three children, Quentin III (Trey) and wife Danielle of Thoroughfare, Tony Lawler of Manassas and daughter Marya Rice and husband Chase of Manassas, and four grand children, Quentin and Sam Rice and Carter and Jacob Lawler. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, Thomas Janaskie and wife Elaine of Greenville, TN as well as many nieces and nephews who love him very much.

There will be a visitation on Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 5pm-8pm at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, VA. A funeral service will take place Friday, September 4, 2015, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. Charles Stewart officiating.
