Paul Shields Craig, 92, of Centreville, formerly of Lorain, OH, passed away February 5, 2018 at the ManorCare Health Services – Fair Oaks, VA.

Born January 1, 1926 in Lorain, OH, he was the youngest child of Lorain Sports Hall of Famer Harold Shields Craig and his wife, Anna. Paul had an older sister, Patricia, and brother, Murray, both of whom preceded him in death.

Mr. Craig attended Lorain St. Mary’s Elementary School and High School where he was a varsity basketball player. He enlisted in the US Navy in June of 1943 and served in the South Pacific aboard the USS Drayton DD366 with distinction. He married Betty Elanor Sasso, on August 30, 1947, and together they had three married children, Kevin Patrick and his wife Jamie of Houston, TX; John Shields and his wife Heidi of Clifton, VA; and Philip Alan, who preceded his father in death, and his wife Cindy of Dublin, OH. Mr. Craig is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Jon David Craig of Atlanta, GA; Paul Shields Craig II of Indianapolis, IN; Heather Nicole Craig of Winchester, VA; and Olivia Rose Thornlow of Clifton, VA.

Paul was employed for over 32 years as a Driver Salesman by Sealtest Dairy and Reiter Dairy. He attended St. Anthony of Padua Church in Lorain for over 40 years and was Past President of the Holy Name Society, an Usher and Choir Member and CYO Basketball Coach for 16 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 4223 for over 40 years and was Past Grand Knight and Financial Secretary for 26 years. He retired to Spanish Cove in Lillian, AL where he was a member of the Baychords and Baytones Barbershop Singing Groups and a Community Volunteer. Paul was also the founder/Organizer/Coordinator of the USS Drayton Reunion Association. He relocated to Centreville, VA where he lived until his passing.

Private graveside and interment services will take place in the Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, OH.
