Obituary for Bich Hong Fett

Bich Hong Fett
Bich Hong Fett was born in Chau Doc, Vietnam to Phuong V. Trinh and Cac T. Huynh on April 21, 1935. On September 25, 2016, at the age of 81, she succumbed to colon cancer in Manassas, VA.

She was educated in Chau Doc City and in Saigon prior to becoming an elementary school teacher in Saigon. During her life in Vietnam, she experienced the occupation of Vietnam (then part of French Indochina) by the Imperial Japanese Armed Forces, the transition of the Nation to become the Republic of Vietnam and the ensuing conflict with North Vietnam and insurgent forces.

In August 1966, she immigrated to the United States where she was employed by the U.S. Department of Defense at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA, as an instructor of the Vietnamese language to members of the U.S. Armed Forces prior to their assignments in Vietnam.

On June 27, 1966, she wed Lieutenant Colonel Frederick J Fett in the Presidio of Monterey Post Chapel.

During their over 47 years of a very happy marriage, they together travelled the world during her husband’s numerous U.S. Air Force assignments. She was a wonderful wife and homemaker to her husband, especially excelling in baking, cooking, and sewing. During their five years stationed in Germany, she studied the German language at the Berlitz Language School. She became proficient enough to communicate in German with her husband’s grandmother and aunts to learn many German recipes. This was in addition to those she had already mastered, i.e. American, Chinese, French, Japanese and Vietnamese dishes. Gardening and fishing were also some of her favorite past times.

Besides her husband, Frederick J Fett, of Manassas, she leaves behind three sisters, four half siblings, and many nieces and nephews who adored her. Her sisters in the United States are Van H. Trinh of Alexandria, Virginia, Jennifer Huynh of Monterey, California, and Donna Tran of West Palm Beach, Florida. Her half-siblings continue to live in Vietnam.

Private family funeral services for her were held at the Baker-Post Funeral Home in Manassas, Virginia.

Bich will be laid to rest at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia on Wednesday November 9, 2016 at 1:00pm.
