Obituary for Candace Seton Kownacki

Candace Seton Kownacki
Candace Seton Kownacki, 67, passed away on September 13, 2016 at her home in Gainesville, Virginia. She was born on February 26, 1949 to Gerard and Alyce Miller (née Klyne) in Astoria, New York, attended Upper Darby High School in suburban Philadelphia, and graduated with her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester in 1971.

On June 12, 1971 Candy married Edward Kownacki and the two enjoyed 45 years of marriage. She devoted her life to raising her six children and loved every second spent with her 16 grandchildren. Candy advised her children to always add a pinch of love when cooking; every year she selected Christmas ornaments for her children that marked a milestone in their lives and included a note with her own reflections and inspirations; most importantly, she believed that dessert wasn’t dessert unless it contained chocolate and that no Mother’s Day should be spent suffering in a hat and corsage.

Her dedication to serving others was most evident through her volunteer work. She was a counselor at Birthright of Prince William County for over 10 years. She also served as a coordinator of the community outreach committee at Holy Family Parish which included visiting the sick, providing meals and comforting bereaved families. As a founding member of the Legion of Mary at St. Andrew’s Parish, she served in many executive roles. Candace also ministered to women in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. In addition, many children and young adults discovered the faith through her work as a CCD teacher in her parish communities.

Candy was preceded in death by both her parents and her two brothers, Kenneth and Gary Miller.
Candy is survived by her husband, Ed; their children: Jennifer, Kathryn, Edward, Laura, Peter, and John; and their 16 grandchildren: Michael, Caroline, Sarah, Isabel, Max, Gabrielle, Jacob, Casey, Kira, Mia, Piper, Tess, Samuel, Aidan, Ryan, and Cooper.

The family will receive visitors Monday, September 19, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, Virginia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8213 Linton Hall Road, Gainesville, Virginia.

Interment will immediately follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens.
