Obituary for Roger C. Simond Sr.

Roger C.  Simond Sr.
Captain Roger C. Simond, Sr., USMC, Retired, 83, of Manassas, passed away August 7, 2016 at the Novant Health – Prince William Medical Center.

Born October 29, 1932 in Panama, he was the son of the late Roger C. Simond and Viola Gache Simond. On November 19, 1954 in the Panama Canal Zone, he married the former Lina J. Hernandez, who survives.
Captain Simond proudly served his country for over 24 years in United States Marine Corp where he spent two tours in the Viet Nam conflict, and later worked for the State of Virginia in law enforcement as a Chief of Police and was an instructor in the Virginia ASAP Program.

He and his wife have been longtime residents of Manassas and members of All Saints Catholic Church. He was a Second Degree Knight of the George Brent Council # 5332 at All Saints Catholic Church. He also was instrumental in the creation of the Prince William Players Theatre group. He also was the proprietor of two family restaurants in Manassas, Luigi’s and then later Pinocchio’s, both Italian Restaurants.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Rochelle Marie Simond. Surviving besides his beloved wife of 62 years, are five children, Roger C. Simond, Jr. of Manassas; Desiree S. Rockey and her husband Dale of Glenn Allen; Renee M. Simond of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Bernadette M. Jacob of Woodbridge; Danyel G. Simond and his significant other Michelle Hayes of Berryville; and six grandchildren, Chase Rockey, Rochelle Rockey, Simone Rockey, Angelina Jacob, Gabrielle Rockey, and Isabelle Simond.

He and his wife Lina traveled around the world, visiting many countries, making beautiful long-lasting memories. Always a caring, providing father, he was dearly loved & honored by his family and friends. He supported the Boy Scouts of America, and was able to mentor his son Roger to Eagle Scout rank. Capt. Simond enjoyed camping with his family and boating & fishing with his son Danyel, where they owned a Cabin Cruiser boat and sailed numerous times from Virginia Beach to Ft. Lauderdale Florida and back. He was also very close to his daughters Desi, Rennie and Bernadette, who honored her father by her service in the United States Marine Corps. He was a lover of many animals, and especially his two current pet dogs Ebby & Puff.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas. A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Road, Manassas.

Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018; or to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22311.
