Obituary for Judith Towne Magnussen

Judith Towne Magnussen
Judith Mary (Towne) Magnussen passed away peacefully Thursday morning, May 5, 2016 in her home with family by her side.

Judy was born to two loving parents, Robert and Dorothy (Joyce) Towne on April 7, 1949 in DeKalb, IL.

Judy spent the majority of her childhood and young adult life in Florida with her five sisters, and settled in Manassas, VA in 1980 where she later met her loving and devoted husband Mark Magnussen.

In addition to owning a business and working with her husband, Judy enjoyed traveling around the world, gardening, yoga, playing solitaire, thunderstorms, shooting on the gun range, and listening to classical and oldies music. She also dedicated a significant portion of her time volunteering as a girl-scout leader, room mom, teaching Sunday school, and over the past two decades volunteering at Linton Hall School and with the Benedictine Sisters in Bristow, VA. She served as the membership secretary of CAMP (Council on America’s Military Past) and belonged to the Towne Family Association.

She is preceded in death by her father Robert Towne, her mother Dorothy Joyce Towne, and her nephew Timothy Leight.

Surviving Judy is her husband Mark Magnussen; daughter Christina Pfizenmaier Kurtz; son Logan Magnussen; five sisters: Sandra McAuley, Susan Thomasson, Deborah Towne, Mary Ann Towne Rastatter, and Elizabeth Moore; three grandsons Bradley, Taylor, and Joshua Kurtz; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Judy will always be remembered as a strong, fun-loving spirit who would do anything for her friends and family, especially her dearest friend and husband of 30 years, Mark. She was loved and respected by all and will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.

The family will receive friends on Saturday May 14, 2016 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home and Cremation Center located at 1001 Nokesville Rd. in Manassas. A prayer service will be held at 2:00p.m. and officiated by Deacon Eberlein.

A Mass and interment will be held at All Saints Catholic Church and Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

From a young age and throughout her life Judy always felt it was important to donate to various charitable organizations. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider a memorial contribution to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
