Obituary for Barry Anderson Sudduth

Barry A. Sudduth, 65, of Manassas, Virginia, passed away on August 23, 2015.

Barry was born in Culpeper, Virginia, on November 1, 1949, the son of Ulysses and Hazel Poe Sudduth. A graduate of Culpeper High School, he was awarded a basketball scholarship to Virginia Commonwealth University. After he was graduated from VCU, Barry began his teaching and coaching careers in Prince William County Schools at Osbourn and Osbourn Park High Schools.

When Manassas City Schools was established in 1977, Barry returned to Osbourn High School where he was beginning his 39th year of teaching at the time of his death. At OHS he was a social studies teacher and department chairperson. Barry held numerous positions in the athletic program at Osbourn, including athletic director and coach of numerous sports.

Barry is survived by his wife of 33 years, Francine; his daughter Julianne; his son Bradford; his sister Linda; and his brother Chip (Liz). He is also survived by members of the Summa family: Frank and Beverly Summa, Mary Lu, Natalia, Joe, Janee, Nick, Gregory, Rebecca, Frank J., Elizabeth, Jonathan, Cole, Bennett, Jared, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Barry also leaves behind his extended family: Mary Johnson, David and Joyce Madison, Joanne and David Speaks, and many other colleagues and friends.

A celebration of Barry’s life will be held on Saturday, August 29, at 2:00 PM in the Osbourn High School auditorium. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Barry Sudduth Memorial Scholarship, Osbourn High School, 9005 Tudor Lane, Manassas, VA 20110.
