Obituary for Jack H. Christensen

Jack H. Christensen
Jack Christensen, 92 of Manassas Virginia went to be with His Lord on Monday June 1st, 2015 at Potomac Falls Health and Rehab in Sterling, Virginia.

Born June 12, 1922 in Copenhagen, Denmark to Holm and Metta Marie Christensen, he immigrated to the United States in 1924. He became a US citizen in September of 1944 prior to shipping out to serve his country in the Fourth Armored Division during World War II. He was severely wounded during the Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne, France. For his service and bravery he was awarded a Purple Heart.

He is preceded in death by one infant son, Jack George Christensen.

Besides his wife of seventy-four years, Melita Genevieve Christensen, 92, Jack is also survived by his three children; Ruth Winans, wife of Jim Winans of Minden, Nevada, Susan Joyce of Lincoln, California, and Thomas Christensen, husband of Marilyn Christensen of Fairfax, Virginia. also survived by his younger brother, Robert Christensen; seven grandchildren, Scott, Andrew, and Cathy Winans, Ernest and John Lompa, and Kirsten and Sara Christensen; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild with a second to be born in 2015.

Jack was an active attendee of Ambassador Bible Church in Chantilly, Virginia. In his youth, he and his family resided in Oakland, California. There he met his sweetheart, Genevieve. Both attended Freemont High School and were married shortly after graduating in January of 1941. After the war, he worked for the Breuners Large Furniture Store where he managed their custom drapery operation.

In 1965, he and his wife purchased the Helen Mowry Studio and manufactured custom lampshades for both major and smaller retailers and for the public in the greater San Francisco Bay area. Over time, their focus centered on custom draperies, and they changed the name of their business to Christensen Studio and served clients throughout all of Central California and Nevada, including Stanford University and a number of clients on "The Seventeen Mile Drive" and Carmel Valley. They retired in 1986, and moved to Diamond Springs, California where they enjoyed hosting their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. There, they were devoted members of Shingle Springs Baptist Church.

Jack was a Godly man, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He spent many summers taking his grandchildren to the boardwalk, traveling to see his family around the country, and even beyond. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family, making them laugh, and devoting his life to others.

Family will receive friends of Jack during a viewing on Monday, June 8th from 6-8PM at the Baker-Post Funeral Home at 10001 Nokesville Road in Manassas, Virginia.

The funeral service will be at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, June 9th at the same location, with an escorted motorcade to Quantico National Cemetery which all attendees are welcome to follow.
Contributions can be made to the Veterans of Foreign War, who Jack generously supported during his lifetime. Cards or sentiments can be sent to all family members at 13035 Dunhill Drive, Fairfax Virginia 22030.
