Obituary for Mary Ann Zech

Mary Ann Zech, 66, of Manassas, passed away November 20th, 2008 surrounded by her family at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland after a battle with leukemia.
Born November 26th, 1941 in Monroe, MI, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd Jacob Bowman and Gertrude Ann Kneebush Bowman. On October 17th, 1964 in Petersburg, MI, she married James Zech, who survives.
Mary Ann graduated from nursing school in 1962 at Flower Hospital in Toledo, Ohio and proudly practiced as an RN for 5 years before starting a family and becoming a full time homemaker. In early married years, Mary Ann was an enthusiastic player of basketball, softball, volleyball, and bowling and later, never missing a game, loudly rooted for her children as they too participated in sports. Mary Ann especially enjoyed flowers, gardening, and travel to botanical and zoological gardens. She was an avid reader. But her greatest joy was her family, always looking out for their best interests before herself. She adored, Kyle, her grandchild. The simple enjoyments of life for her were attending a movie, eating out, and watching Redskins football on Sunday afternoons with her husband.
Mrs. Zech was a member of Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manassas, the Woodbine Woods Garden Club, and has been a resident of Manassas since 1975.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Owen Bowman and Dale Bowman, and one sister, Lola Walters. Surviving besides her beloved husband of 44 years, are one daughter, Lisa Zech and her husband Mike Tull of Oak Hill, VA; one son, Jay Zech of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Dorothy McFarland of Toledo, OH; and one grandson, Kyle Tull of Oak Hill, VA.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 29th, 2008 from 2-4 p.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Rd. Manassas. Funeral Services will begin at 4 pm in the Baker-Post Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeffrey Wilson officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, Summerfield, MI.
Memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, THE NATIONAL CAPITAL AREA, 5845 Richmond Highway, Suite 800, Alexandria, VA 22303.
