Obituary for Mary Patricia Clark

Mary Patricia Clark
Mary Patricia Clark (née Donohue) died peacefully in her sleep on February 19, 2018 in Ashburn, Virginia at the age of 82.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband Matty. Reunited with him in spirit for eternity, she will soon rest with him in Arlington National Cemetery.

Mary was born May 1, 1935 in New York, New York to Martin and Mary Donohue. Mary lived most of her life in and around New York City, where she raised four sons and was known as a gracious hostess, a good and loyal friend, a devoted mother, sister, and daughter, and a relentless but good-natured adversary in any card game. In retirement, Mary and Matty spent many happy years living in the home they built on the North Carolina coast, surrounded by friends and enjoying frequent visits with their family. A devout Catholic, Mary was an active member of St. Egbert Catholic Church in Morehead City during those years. Mary relocated to Northern Virginia in 2015 to be near her children and grandchildren.

Mary is survived by four sons (Matthew, Kevin, Stephen, and Kenneth), three daughters-in-law (Mary Ellen, Cathy, and Margeaux), five grandchildren (Kevin, Deirdre, Brian, Courtney, and Connor), and a great-grandson (Keaton). Mary is remembered by her children and grandchildren as a kind, patient, and nurturing mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals, supported their endeavors, and soothed life’s inevitable bumps and bruises.

Mary’s family thanks the caregivers and staff of Maple Grove at Ashby Ponds for the care, kindness, and dedication they showed to Mary during her time with them.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a future date to celebrate Mary’s life.

Those wishing to remember Mary are invited to donate in her name to Capital Caring at www.capital caring.org.
