Richard Lee Proffitt, age 62, passed away on February 5th, 2018 in Bristow, Virginia.

Richard is survived by his wife, Laura Michelle (Plaugher) Proffitt, of Manassas, VA; Parents, James (Jim) Walker Proffitt Sr. and mother, Shirrell Jean (Phillips) Proffitt of Berkeley Springs, WV; siblings, Cathy Lynn Swanigan (Jerry Swanigan) of Polk City FL, Judy Ann Proffitt of Berkeley Springs, WV, James Walker Proffitt Jr. of Berkeley Springs, WV; Children, Courtney Jean Proffitt of Manassas, VA, Devon Graham Proffitt, of Manassas, VA, Phillip Walker Proffitt of Manassas, VA; Caitlin Jane Weaver (Jason Weaver) of Manassas, VA; Grandchildren Caleb Ethan Cohenour, Olivia Grace Weaver and Sophia Michelle Weaver; and a large extended family.

Richard was born October 29, 1955 in Dayton, Ohio to his Parents Jim and Shirrell. He graduated from George Mason High School in 1974. Richard and Laura married on June 19, 1982, sharing more than 35 years of marriage, memories, and endless love. In 2011 he accepted a position as a school bus driver with Prince William County Schools, where he worked for 6 years.

Richard loved nothing more than being surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and parents. He could often be found tending to his tomato plants or talking sports with his father, Jim. His family and friends will remember him as a devoted husband, dedicated father, and loyal friend to all.

A Memorial service will be held February 10, 2018 [11:00AM] at St. Thomas United Methodist Church with a Reception to follow. Friends and Family are welcome to join in celebration of Richards life. The Proffitt Family would like to thank everyone for their love and continued support through these tremendously hard times.
