On December 21st, in the early morning hours, Joan passed away peacefully. Joan was the first of three children born to Oliver Barbour Sprouse and Blanche May (Gregory) Sprouse. On November 10, 1958, Joan married the love of her life, John Lewis Fields. Together they had three children. Deborah Ann, John Lewis, Jr., and Roxanne Denise. Joan and John had just celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary when John Passed on December 6, 2000. On December 4, 2002, their oldest child, Debbie, joined her father in heaven. Joan is survived by her son, John Lewis Fields, Jr., her youngest daughter, Roxanne Denise (Fields) Thomas, and her two siblings, Sharon (Sprouse) Garland and Bobby Sprouse.

In addition to Joan’s remaining two children, she also leaves behind nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, all of whom she loved unconditionally. Debbie gave birth to two sons with Larry Cornwell. The oldest son Michael Shane Cornwell and his wife Kelly, have one daughter, Kayleigh, and another daughter expected in the spring. The youngest son, Jason Randall Cornwell, and his wife Carolyn, have one daughter, Giuliana, and one son, Dominic. Johnny has five children, his eldest daughter, Jennifer Leigh Fields has three children: Brianna, Brandon, and Diego. His second eldest daughter, Ashley Montana Fields, has two sons: Laith and Xile. Johnny’s youngest three children are: John Ryan, Skylar Rayne, and Kyle Riser. Roxanne and her husband, Shawn Thomas, have two sons: Zackary James and Caleb Christian.

During her professional years, Joan worked as a waitress for Howard Johnson’s restaurant, a cashier at A&P Food Stores, and in the insurance industry at Fireman’s Fund, which she considered her most fulfilling job. She lived in Northern Virginia nearly all of her life and raised her family in Falls Church. Joan enjoyed traveling with her husband and family to both West Virginia and Tennessee.
Joan impacted many people with her vibrant spirit, strong will, and sense of humor. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, VA 20110. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

A reception will follow in the funeral home community room.
