Obituary for Nancy Jean Russell

Nancy Jean  Russell
Born on September 13, 1938, in Washington, DC, to the late John Robert Hooe, Sr., and Lillian Clatterbuck Hooe, Nancy Jean (Hooe) Russell joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital.

Nancy grew up in Manassas, VA, where she attended Bennett Elementary School from grades 1-7, and Osbourn High School from grades 8-12. During her high school years, Nancy was a Majorette and played the clarinet in the Marching Band.

Upon graduation in June 1956, Nancy married her high school sweetheart, Samuel B. “Sammy” Russell, who predeceased her on February 11, 2003. They were predeceased by the youngest of their five children, Samuel W. Russell, on April 21, 1984. Nancy was also predeceased by her oldest sister, Lillian (Hooe) Warren Hamilton on November 10, 2007.

Left to cherish her memory are Sammy and Nancy’s four surviving children – Patti Kae (Russell) Johnston and husband Kenny, Lisa Camille (Russell) Colgan and husband Ray, Sr., Suzanne Denise (Russell) Ford and husband James III, and Robert “Robbie” Hooe Russell. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, with 2 more great-grandchildren expected in 2018.

Also surviving are Nancy’s siblings – Roberta (Hooe) Plaster, John Robert Hooe, Jr., and wife Mildred, and Patricia “Patsy” (Hooe) Gough, as well as Sammy’s four surviving siblings – Mary Esther (Russell) Dillon, Raymond “Cordell” Russell, Sr., Gaston Dewitt “GD” Russell, Jr., and wife Nancy, and Barbara “Nell” (Russell) Sheets and husband Freddie. Nancy also leaves behind many nieces and nephews from both the Hooe and Russell families.

Nancy was a devoted 40+ year member of Central Baptist Church, in Woodbridge, VA, where she enjoyed participating in many church-related events. Prior to joining Central Baptist Church, Nancy was a longtime member of Woodbine Baptist Church, and spent her childhood years attending Manassas Baptist Church.
Nancy was employed by Cowne & Weybright Insurance, in Manassas, for many years, eventually retiring in December 2015.
Faith and family meant everything to Nancy, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and cared for her.

The family will receive visitors on Saturday, December 23, 2017, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Central Baptist Church, 13910 Minnieville Road, Woodbridge, VA. A Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Brad Winegar officiating.

Interment will immediately follow at Woodbine Cemetery.
