Margaret Louise  Carey
Margaret “Peg” Carey passed away at the home of her daughter in Bristow, Virginia on Saturday, November 25, 2017. She was a resident of Culpeper, VA since 1998 and had recently moved to Arbor Terrace Assisted Living in Manassas, VA. Previously she had lived in Fairfax, VA from 1985 to 1998.

She was born on September 14, 1941 the fifth of 8 children to Harvey and Helen Marley Lewis in North Hornell, Steuben County, NY.

Peg graduated from Haverling Central High School in Bath, New York in 1959. She worked in Albany, NY and later moved to Washington, DC in 1962 and worked at the Chamber of Commerce. She received her Associates Degree in 1984 from University of Kentucky Community College. She was most recently employed as a paralegal before her retirement in 1998.

Married to Joe Carey for 40 years, they raised a family while moving around the country, living in Florida, Pennsylvania, California and Kentucky while Joe served in the United States Coast Guard.

She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them as often as possible. She enjoyed discussing politics and was known for her strong opinions.

She is preceded in death by her husband Joe who died in 2006 and her sisters, Joyce Lewis and Joanne Ackerson and her brother Jerry Lewis.

She is survived by her three daughters, Jacquelyn O’Brien (Tom) of Fairfax, Va, Jina Carey (Mark Micieli) of Bristow, VA, Jennifer Carey of Woodbridge, VA, stepson Joe Carey of Canton, North Carolina, Six grandchildren, Justin and Kameron Stone, Patrick and Molly O’Brien, Evan Micieli and Quinlan Helfrick, three step granddaughters, Christine, Amanda and Sarah Carey and a step great granddaughter, Loralai Enos. She is also survived by her three sisters, Janice McCarthy of Hornell, NY, Carol Melnyk (Roger Dyer) of Canisteo, NY and Helen Jean (Jerry) Brutsman of Jasper, NY and one brother John Lewis of Hornell, NY, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive visitors at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, VA on Monday, December 4, from 1-2 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 2 p.m. with a buffet reception to follow in the funeral Home community room.

Interment will take place on Wednesday, December 6, 12:00 at Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association.
