Obituary for Bernice Marie Hornseth

Bernice Marie Hornseth
Born in Waukesha WI in 1920, Bernice was active with music, singing in both the choir at church and school growing up. She was also an accomplished pianist. Upon graduating from Waukesha High School in 1938 she worked for the telephone company as an operator. In 1943 she married Richard Hornseth, a statistician and mathematician from Spring Valley, MN. They moved to Suitland, MD in 1950, so Richard could take a job with the Census Bureau. They lived in Hillcrest Heights, MD until 1985 when they moved to Nokesville, VA.

Bernice became a skilled oil painter and later turned to china painting, producing hundreds of pieces. She was a member of the Northern Virginia China Painters Club and frequently showed her work at china painting shows throughout the Northern Virginia area. Her other hobbies included gardening, bowling and bridge playing. Bernice loved to sew. She made many of her own outfits, as well as furnishings for her home. She was a top notch cook and was especially good with desserts, with people talking about them years later.

She leaves behind two sons, Geoffrey and Allen, four grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
