Obituary for William Joseph Flattery Sr.

William Joseph Flattery Sr.
William Joseph Flattery, “Bill”, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017.

He was born August 27, 1939 in Danville, Illinois to John Gerald Flattery and Hazel Aleen Woods.

Bill grew up in Annandale, Virginia in a neighborhood with about 10 kids who went on all-day hikes, played baseball in the orchard, and lots of other things in a safe place where neighbors looked out for each other. He always loved cars and anything related to them. When he was a young teenager he bought a 1930 Ford for $25.00 from a neighbor and brought it home in bushel baskets and reassembled it. His Dad had to rescue Bill and Kitty in it once when the car they were driving broke down. Bill enjoyed going to Bike Week in Florida. He liked collecting commemorative coins. He liked to visit his friends at 7-11 and get his coffee and scratch off tickets in the morning. He enjoyed having a cold one with his friends at the Moose Lodge. He liked to look for old tools and other treasures at yard sales and flea markets. And he dearly loved his family and friends

Bill almost never got in a hurry, but you could always count on him to get the job done! He probably fixed an automobile at one time or another for everyone he ever knew.

He is survived by his siblings: Father John Flattery of Danville, Illinois, Kathryn “Kitty” Reedy (Orren “Jr.”) of Supply, NC; Patricia “Patsy” Weakley (Craig) of Wellsville, Ohio; Julie Ellen Woodyard (Kermit) of Pulaski, Virginia; his children Steve Flattery (Bridgette) of Manassas, Virginia, Marty Flattery of Rixieville, Virginia, Bill Flattery Jr. of Manassas, Virginia, 6 grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins who adored him.

Bill was a kind hearted gentlemen who couldn’t do enough for you. He was a wonderful friend and everyone liked being with him. He will be missed by many.

Quote from Kitty:
As for me, he was the best brother in the world and told him that the last time I saw him. He was always there for me and I will miss him forever. I can’t imagine him not being here.
