Obituary for Paul Thanksgiving Gray

Paul Thanksgiving Gray

Paul Thanksgiving (Paulie Boy) Gray was born in Germantown, PA on November 26, 1959 as a twin to Paul Gray Sr. and Georgianna Gray. He and his twin brother Roosevelt Day Gray were wonderful additions to an already large family of eleven existing siblings.

He was preceded in death by his sister Emma as a child, as well as his brother Paul later in his life, then his father Paul Sr., and then his mother Georgianna. He also lost his grandmother whom he loved dearly Mrs. Emma Harper Gray Dupree who cared for many of the children out of her small home in Port Deposit, MD. As a young mature man he was known to often help his elderly grandmother by tending to her home on Cokesbury Rd. His grandmother had two sons, Franklin Roosevelt Gray (having one child), and Paul Gray Sr. (having 13 children). From her two sons came all 28 grandchildren that exist and thrive today.

Paul Thanksgiving Gray worked hard all his life! Through adversity and hardship Paul was able to keep working, and also earn his G.E.D from Cecil County Community College. One of his first jobs was working for the City of Newark, DE. with Henry Walter Dorsey. while working After achieving his G.E.D he then went on to pursue truck driving where he obtained his CDL (Commercial Driving License).

Paul spent 3-4 years trucking cross country for his career. While trucking on the road he would stop into familiar areas. He would pick up his nieces and nephews as well as neighborhood kids that he took under his wing. He was a great mentor. He also started talking to a young lady on the phone who would later be chosen by him to be his wife, JudyAnn Dorsey. He began courting her and they began their life together. They were married on March 1st, 1995 at the courthouse in downtown Baltimore, MD.

He spent a lot of time with his twin brother during the next part of his career. He started working at Baltimore Inner Harborplace for Rouse Co. under his twin as a professional painter. He took a lot of pride in his work because it was a reflection of him. Whenever someone wanted something done they would get Paul to get his crew to get the job done RIGHT! This would continue for many years to come. He followed his twin around the globe. I guess that is why the name of the next company he would work for was called Global Management Solutions. During his time at Global he would move several times, over the next few years. While working for Global after moving to Norfolk, VA. He then fell ill with health issues with his heart. He had his first open heart surgery in Norfolk, VA in 2002. He recovered from that and later went on his last job to Southern Sanitary in Norfolk, VA.

Later, Paul became really sick to the point where he couldn't work any longer and began to collect disability for having a bad heart and lungs. He was excited about his early retirement! He made the best out of a bad situation. After staying in Norfolk, VA for several years to be able to attend specialist doctors for the many health problems he had, he later moved to Manassas, VA. It was there he stayed for the remainder of his life. He later got sick to the point where he had to have a LVAD put on his heart to assist with blood flow throughout his body. He successfully recovered from this where it would give him several more weeks added to his life.

On July 24th he had got sick in the house where paramedics had to be called and he ended up in INOVA Hospital. He would remain in the hospital with four failed organs including his heart, lungs, kidneys and then brain damage.

Paul went home to be with the Lord in Heaven on August 4th, 2017 at 5:55pm. He leaves behind to mourn him his beautiful wife, Judy Gray; his twin sons Vincent and Christopher; his baby girls, Paula and Jaimmera; and four beautiful grandchildren that he got to see before he transitioned to Glory and was able to bless each and every one of them.

Also surviving is his twin brother Roosevelt (Kim) along with brothers Jimmy, David and Doyle; his sisters ,Gloria(Arthur), Pauline, Juanita and MaryAnn; uncle, Franklin Roosevelt Gray and 28 nieces and nephews which all cannot be named but he loved very much and will miss him dearly.

Paul was the kind of man that would give you his last or help you if you were a stranger on the street in need. He literally gave until it hurt of his money, his time, his love and his spirit. Paul Thanksgiving Gray was a 57 year young man who loved Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with ALL his heart, mind and soul and I know Paul is with Jesus Christ now. May he eternally rest in heaven. I love you and I will miss you.
