Guy Roland Meader died in his home on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 in Manassas, Virginia due to complications following his year-long battle with esophageal cancer. He was 56 years young.

Guy was born on October 27, 1960 in Fort Sumter, South Carolina to Merten and Marjorie Meader. His father was a member of the U.S. Air Force and inspired in Guy a strong desire to serve his country so a few months shy of his 18th birthday, Guy joined the Army. He was stationed in Friedberg, Germany as an Armor Loader. He left Germany to attend the United States Military Academy Preparatory School, West Point Prep School, and then the United States Military Academy from where he resigned in order to pursue other opportunities. Guy continued to serve our country as an Army National Guard member, serving in an Infantry division for some years. Guy continued his ambitious plans and graduated with honors from the University of Maryland with a degree in Government and Politics in 1998. Later in life, while continuing his full-time career and serving in the National Guard, he once again attended the University of Maryland University College, earning a Master’s Certificate in Project Management (2008), a Master’s Degree in Technology Management (2011), and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (2012). In the early 1990s he joined the Capitol Police force, protecting our nation’s Capitol building and public servants. He subsequently joined the Montgomery County, Maryland Police Department as a patrol officer, later becoming a field training officer and then a detective. He earned several recognitions for his dedicated and exemplary service. He later became a contractor working with various agencies within the Federal government.

Guy married Deborah Alfaro in 2001. Both Guy and Deborah always said that they were each other’s favorite person with whom to spend time; they could have happily spent 24 hours a day together. They were each other’s best friend. Together they built a strong, loving, and devoted marriage and family, raising their two beautiful young children, Ethan and Isabelle. In 2008 Guy again joined the National Guard and served in Infantry. He deployed and served a tour of duty in Iraq in 2011 as a Sergeant and Combat Force Protection Lead as part of Task Force 183, Operation New Dawn. He was honorably discharged as an Infantry Sergeant in 2012. During Guy’s military service, he earned several medals and commendations including the Army Commendation Medal. Guy retired as a contractor to the Federal government in 2016.

Guy was an adventurous man who loved life and was constantly learning and trying new things. He was always eager to take on new challenges. He loved to help family, friends, and colleagues reach their potential. He was a good friend, and a good and honorable man. Both in his civilian and military life, Guy led by example; he knew how to be a good and fair leader and supervisor. He positively impacted many lives with his friendship, guidance, mentoring, and wisdom. He was a devoted and loving husband and an amazing father who held his wife and children close to his heart. He had a deep love of God manifested by a deep and unfailing faith, and a deep love and loyalty of country, family, and traditions. He loved music (the Eagles was his favorite band), travel. He was an avid reader and enjoyed teaching himself new skills in order to take on new projects; he loved DIY projects and did a fantastic job with them. He had an amazing sense of humor, a wonderful laugh, and a beautiful smile. He loved John Wayne movies, comedies, military history, the Fall season, Halloween (he loved decorating the yard and house for trick-or-treaters), Thanksgiving, and Christmas. He was a down-to-earth man, a man’s man who was kind and honorable. He was very proud of his service to his country and of his family. Guy’s and Deborah’s love and devotion for one another ran deep and was never-ending; a true example of pure and deep love. Guy adored his wife and children.

Guy is survived by his wife, Deborah; his daughter from a previous marriage, Jessica, son-in-law Johnathon Olavarria, and grandson Henrik; his son Ethan and daughter Isabelle; his brother Mark; and his sister Beth and brother-in-law Eric, and nieces Catherine and Anna.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, Va 20110.

Interment, with military honors, will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA 22172.
