Obituary for Sara Jewell "Sally" Edwards

Sara Jewell "Sally" Edwards
Sara “Sally” Jewell Edwards, 63, of Manassas, formerly of Alexandria, passed away July 13, 2017 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital following a brief illness.

Born July 18, 1953 in Alexandria, VA, she was the daughter of the late Burton E. and Dorothy Mingin Jewell. Sally married Philip Douglas Edwards in 1977, who preceded her in death on February 16, 2003.

Sally was also preceded in death by one brother, Richard C. Jewell. Survivors include seven siblings, Ronald B. Jewell and his wife Wanda of Alexandria; Suzanne D. Chalk of Manassas; Randolph H. Jewell of Colonial Beach; Robert A. Jewell and his wife Rebecca of Summerville, SC; Ralph P. Jewell and his wife Anne-Marie of Fredericksburg; Sharon “Sandy” Knizner and her husband Mike of Virginia Beach; John M. Jewell and his wife Nora of Manassas. She loved her 17 nieces and nephews dearly, including her niece, Stacey L. Chalk, whom she thought of as a daughter.

Mrs. Edwards has been a resident of Manassas for the past 8 years, where she was a regular attendee of Grace United Methodist Church and worked at the McLean Mortgage Corporation as a mortgage closer. She loved spending time in downtown Historic Manassas with the many friends she called extended family, was an active member of the Ladies of the Blue & Gray, as well as a volunteer for Historic Manassas, Inc. and the Greater Manassas Christmas Parade.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 21, 2017 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas. A celebration of Sally’s life will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with The Rev. Rudy Tucker, Jr. officiating.

Interment will be private and take place in Mount Comfort Cemetery at a later date.

Because Sally was a lover of animals, memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to the Prince William County Animal Shelter, 14807 Bristow Rd, Manassas, VA 20112; or to the Manassas Animal Adoption Center, 10039 Dean Dr, Manassas, VA 20110.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, under the direction of Michael Post. Please sign the guestbook at www.bakerpostfh.com
