Obituary for Paula Ann Shreiner

Paula Ann Shreiner
Paula Ann Shreiner of Gainesville, Virginia, passed away on May 27, 2017, after a long, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by her loving family.

Paula was born on March 25, 1948 in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Edward and Mary Liszka. She grew up in New Castle, PA, studied art at Edinboro University, and lived in Virginia for 40 years.

For over 25 years, Paula took joy in teaching hundreds of children from kindergarten through sixth grade, including children with special needs, at Woodley Hills and Centre Ridge Elementary Schools.

Paula enjoyed gardening, reading, trying new recipes, and cheering on all Pittsburgh sports teams (and maybe even the Washington Nationals). Because of her background in art, Paula also enjoyed painting and sewing, and sparked the love of art in her granddaughter.

In addition to her parents, Paula is predeceased by her brother Gene Liszka. She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, J.R. Also surviving are her beloved children, Rit (MaryBeth) and Adam, and granddaughters Catherine and Laura. Paula is also survived by her siblings Geraldine Koski, Edward Liszka, Sylvia Durell, and Susan Liszka, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Whether near or far, Paula kept in close contact with her family.

She will be deeply missed by family and friends, but will always be in our hearts as an incredibly kind, dedicated, funny, creative, and strong wife, mother, grandma, and friend.

A memorial service will be held on June 3, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 14640 Soucy Place, Centreville, VA 20120. Interment will be a private service at St. Benedict Monastery in Bristow, VA.
