Obituary for Sharon Turner Mason

Sharon Turner Mason, a long time Great Falls/Haymarket resident who was a wonderful wife, mother to two children and active in the community, passed away April 29th at home surrounded by her loving family.

Sharon was born on December 28th, 1951 and was raised in Great Falls, VA by Gibson Gray Turner and Lola Maxine Turner. She grew up in an unconditional loving family with one sibling, Paul Turner, in their Great Falls home on Georgetown Pike that her father built in 1947 after he served in the Army. She graduated from Herndon High School in 1969 where she met her husband & love of her life, Steve Mason, of 46 years.

She was 65 years old. After being diagnosed with polycystic kidneys in July of 1989, Sharon fought hard with a strong optimistic outlook full of hope and faith. Having lived with dialysis for the last 6 years our angel on earth that she was has now become our angel above now watching over all of us.

As many who know her would say, Sharon had the gift of hospitality. She was the kindest most loving soul and she brought a sense of peace and warmth to every room she entered. She had an incredible talent for cooking, baking, decorating and love for all crafts. Her love of Christmas and Santas surpassed all other holidays (which makes sense because in 1971 dad didn’t look like Santa then but eventually she became Ms. Claus).

She is survived by her husband Steve, daughter Kimberly Poland with her husband Christopher Poland, and son S. Todd Mason. Sharon has five wonderful grandchildren that she loved with all of her heart, Madison G. Poland (18), Avery C. Poland (15), Copper G. Mason (13), Declan T. Mason (10) and Lydia M. Mason (9). She is also survived by her mother Maxine Turner, Brother Paul Turner with his wife Sandy Turner, her aunt Ellen Cole and sister-in-laws Carole Jones and Connie Joyce.

Family will receive friends at the Baker-Post Funeral Home and Cremation Center 10001 Nokesville Rd. Manassas, VA from 11:00am to 1230pm. Pastor Robert Yarbrough will have a prayer at 12:30 pm.

Interment will be private and at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Sharon’s name to PKD Foundation (pkdcure.org).
