Cynthia Jean (CJ) Elsberry passed away peacefully Monday, January 16, 2017 at Manorcare Nursing Home in Fairfax, VA.

CJ was born on July 19, 1947 in Bakersfield, CA. She is predeceased by her parents Maurice E. LeVesque and Barbra J. Dickerson and her brother Mark LeVesque. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Robert (Bob) Elsberry of Bristow, VA; her daughter and son-in-law Amy and James Barnes of Bristow, VA; her son Mark Elsberry also of Bristow, VA; her brother Maurice E. (Bud) LeVesque of San Jose, CA; her nieces Sharon McKenzie of Vancouver, WA, and Nikki Cross of Bakersfield, CA along with an extended family of cousins, grand nieces, grand nephews and lifelong friends across the country including four feline companions that shared her love.

CJ grew up in Bakersfield, CA and as a young girl she loved animals, horse riding, swimming, playing basketball and painting. She graduated from Bakersfield High School and moved to Monterey, CA with her parents where she met and married her husband Bob in August 1968. As an Air Force family for the next 12 years they lived in Albuquerque, NM, where daughter Amy was born in October 1971, and Los Angeles, CA. In 1980 they left the Air Force and settled in San Jose, CA where their son Mark was born in September 1980. During this time CJ continued her education (2 years at the University of New Mexico); extended her talent for painting into other arts and crafts; raised her children and supported their activities through high school and beyond. In 2004, when Bob’s job moved to Arlington, VA, CJ and her family moved to Bristow, VA where she and Bob retired in 2011.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, Virginia. A memorial service will begin at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor J.R. Judd officiating.

Interment will be private and at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to charities of your choice or one of the following that relate to CJ’s life and interests – Diabetes Association, ASPCA, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
