Obituary for Sadie Anne Clark

Sadie Anne Clark
Sadie Anne Hayden Clark was the 6th child born to James Elton and Daisy Elizabeth Hayden. She was born in their home in Abell, a rural community in Southern Maryland’s St. Mary’s county, on March 1st, 1934. She grew up with five sisters, Polly, Marie, Louise, Laura, and Joan and one brother Paul Cecil. She graduated from Margaret Brent High School in June of 1953 and married William (Bill) Archer Clark in the same month. Her yearbook reflects her future occupation of “Housewife” and that is what she devoted her life to…making a home for her husband and four children Joyce, William Jr, Richard, and David. Several times she had the role of both Mother and Father during the hardship deployments to Korea, Turkey, Vietnam and Shemya that the military required. She packed up the household many times during her husband’s military career…living in Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and nearly ten years in Germany spending nearly six years at Herzo Base and four years in West Berlin, an Allied occupied city during the cold war…not your ordinary housewife at all!

Sadie did work outside of the home at times…following the death of her mother in 1966 she took a job working for Peebles Department store in Manassas in sales. Sadie worked outside of the home until 1984 when she gave up her job to become a full-time caregiver to new born Justin Clark Mallon, her grandson. For a number of years, she gave unselfishly of her time to provide childcare to other grandchildren, great grandchildren and even the children of friends of the family. She loved all children and frequently commented that she would work in God’s nursery in Heaven…and we believe that she knew her ultimate destiny and was an Angel on loan during her stay here on earth.

Sadie went home on Saturday, January 7th, 2017. She went peacefully after a long battle with lung cancer. Her husband, and best friend, Bill was her primary caregiver during her illness. She is survived by her husband Bill of 63 years, sisters Polly, Laura and Joan, her children Joyce, Richard and David, grandchildren Chris, William III, Christina, Melissa, Shaun, Robert, Jennifer, Shannon, and Nicholas, and great grandchildren Ariana, William IV, and Hannah. Sadie was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings James Elton, Marie, Louise, and Paul Cecil, her son William (Bill) Jr. and grandson Justin Clark Mallon.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 16th, 2017 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, VA 20110.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17th, 2017 at Marine Memorial Chapel, 3251 Embry Loop, Quantico, VA 22134.

Interment will be in Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, VA at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to either the American Cancer Society or the Disabled American Veterans organizations to honor Sadie where your gift makes an impact for the greater good. Thank you.
