Obituary for William Edward Pence III

William Edward  Pence III
William Edward Pence III of Haymarket died peacefully at his home on January 9 after a long illness. He was 80.

Mr. Pence was born July 1, 1936, in Weyers Cave, Virginia, the son of the late Myrvin Lafe Pence and Martha Huff Cline Pence. He graduated from Weyers Cave High School in 1953 and from Virginia Tech in 1957.

While at Virginia Tech Mr. Pence was a member of the Corps of Cadets, receiving a commission into the United States Air Force upon graduation. After completing pilot training, he was stationed in Maine and Puerto Rico where he flew KC-135 tankers. While on active duty, Mr. Pence also earned his MBA from Inter-American University. He enjoyed a career as a commercial pilot with Eastern Airlines from 1966 to 1981. He continued to serve in the U.S, Air Force Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1980

He was a member of the Manassas Church of the Brethren, the Manassas Host
Lions Club, and Evergreen Country Club.

On August 5, 1961, Ed married the former Peggy Ann Will of Bridgewater, VA, who survives him. He is also survived by two sons, Dr. William Edward Pence IV and wife, Dr. Maria Pence and children Beatrice Helen and William Henry, of Bedford, New York, and son Gordon Scott Pence and wife Mary Ann Pence and children Tyler Lafe and Madeline Jo of Herndon, VA. Ed is also survived by his sister, Helen Pence Saxon of Buckingham, VA and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves two very special caregivers and friends, Jenny Henderson and Imelda Leonard.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, January 14 at 12:30 PM at the Manassas Church of the Brethren, 10047 Nokesville Rd., Manassas, followed by a reception at Evergreen Country Club in Haymarket from 3 to 5 PM.

There will also be a reception on Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 1 to 3 PM at the Weyers Cave Community Center, 682 Weyers Cave Rd, Weyers Cave, VA.
