Obituary for Ruth Avezac Merkler

Ruth Avezac  Merkler
Ruth Merkler, 94, of Gainesville, VA passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 23, 2016 at the Adler Center for Caring in Aldie, Va.

Born May 7, 1922, on Staten Island, N.Y., she was the daughter of Francis and Christine Avezac. In 1948 she wed Martin J. Merkler and was happily married for 55 years, until the passing of her loving husband, Marty, in 2003.

Ruth is survived by her two children, Martin Merkler and his wife Linda of Snellville, GA, and Ruth Cunningham and her husband John Cunningham of Gainesville, VA. She is also survived by four grandsons, John Cunningham of Arlington, VA, James Cunningham and his wife Devon of Haymarket, VA, Josh Hunt of Alexandria, VA, and Sam Hunt and his wife Kristin of Woodstock, GA. Ruth is also survived by seven great grandchildren, Talen, Lucas, Isabella, Balin, Athena, Davin and Holden.
Born and raised on Staten Island, Ruth graduated New Dorp High School. She worked for the AT&T Telephone Company as a clerk until she retired in 1980.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, from 1:00-3:00 PM and 5:00-7:00 PM at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Rd., Manassas, VA. Funeral Services will held Thursday, October 27, 2016, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 6750 Fayette St., Haymarket, VA.

Interment will follow the service at Pohick Episcopal Church Cemetery in Lorton, VA, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Marty.
Memorial contributions may be donated to the Adler Center for Caring - Capital Caring, 24419 Millstream Drive, Aldie, VA 20105.
