The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of JoEllen Dicken can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

I have known JoEllen for about 27 years (virtually all of her adult life), and she has been my co-worker, my boss, and my friend. JoEllen has always been a sparkling personality, and whatever she did, she has been an overachiever … from playing the trumpet way back in high school; to attending steno school; and captioning at NCI, when we met. JoEllen always, always, continued to strive to attain excellence, and she was invariably successful. As the Director of the Senate Captioning Office, five years ago JoEllen was kind enough to hire me. I have very much enjoyed with working with JoEllen again; her joie de vivre has made a tedious job at times to be fun. Regarding my health, I shall eternally thank JoEllen. At the time, I thought I might have a problem with my hearing ability. However, as my supervisor, JoEllen insisted that the very next day I should instead of coming to work, I should go to the doctor. I certainly would not have done that, if not for JoEllen. That is how I was early diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiforme, or grade IV astrocytoma -- a brain tumor – for which I had surgery. That was a year ago. So I am thankful for JoEllen, and forever will. JoEllen leaves us all, much too soon and much too young. It is heartrending. I send my sympathies to JoEllen’s family, friends, and co-workers.
