Obituary for David MacArthur Adams

David “Dave” MacArthur Adams, loving husband and father, passed away at his home in Nokesville, VA from Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Dave’s motto was “work hard every day that you can, because you don’t know when you won’t have work”. He was known to work daylight to dark, seven days a week to give his family everything he possibly could. He arrived in Alexandria, VA at the young age of 18 from his hometown Baileysville, West Virginia with nothing more than the clothes on this back. He cashed in soda bottles to earn money to eat while getting his first job as a Postman and learning the trade of drywall finishing. He met his beautiful young bride and soon had a family to raise. He would still collect those bottles to feed the family and would never take for granted an opportunity to earn an honest day’s wages. During the 70s and 80s, he built 22 custom homes in Prince William County area. He returned to drywall finishing and taught all three sons so they would always have a trade to fall back on if they needed it. If anyone needed something fixed or built, they came to Dave. He was happy to use his carpentry and drywall skills for family and neighbors. He and it made him proud to do things for others.

When he would take time to relax, it was to go bass or crappie fishing on his pontoon boat. He loved to fish Lake Anna and always loved camping out. Family and friends would camp out and fish all hours of the night and talk about everything as he loved to have conversations. Even if he didn’t catch a fish, he was filled with joy to see everyone else happy and enjoying time together and learning how to fish. He loved watching NASCAR and drag racing.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia; sons DeWayne of West Virginia, Thomas (wife Kim) of Florida, Brian of Nokesville and daughter Angela Chamberlain (husband Thomas Chamberlain); grandson, Tony “TJ” of Haymarket, VA and sister-in-law Shirley Holtzclaw of Nokesville.

The family would like to thank VITAS Healthcare.

Interment will be private and at a later date.
