Obituary for Gary Hahn Hubbard

Gary Hahn Hubbard
Gary Hahn Hubbard passed away peacefully at his home in Nokesville, VA Saturday evening, with friends and family by his side, after a ten-year battle with cancer. Gary was one of two sons born to the Hubbard family of Baltimore, MD, and is survived by his brother, Herbert H. Hubbard, his wife, Susan M. Hubbard, his daughter, Leslie S. Hubbard-Darr, his son-in-law, William R. Darr, his four grandchildren, Nicholas, Johnathan,
Samantha, and Alexander, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Louise V. Pepin and George H. Pepin, and his father, Emerson H. Hubbard.

Gary grew up in Baltimore, MD, yet was always drawn to the west. Though he lived only a short time on the west coast, his cowboy persona always shined through. He had a passion for cars, and restored several himself over the years to include a 1931 Model-A and a 1957 Thunderbird. He also had a passion for animals, and especially horses, since his youth. Thus, in addition to his human family, he is survived by his horse, Buddy, his dog, Buster, his parrots, Lefty and Rojo, and many fish that were his constant companions over the past several years.

Gary lived by the motto, “whatever you choose to do in life, be the BEST” – and, he was. He worked for most of his career in retail sales. His competitive nature served him extremely well in this capacity, as he broke many records, and was the recipient of many awards over the years. He was involved in the Model-A Ford Club of America, where he served in a leadership capacity. In addition, he was a member of the Nokesville Horse Society and the Black Horse Calvary. Gary was also a musician, an athlete, a hunter, a fisherman, and a talented, self-taught artist. Gary seemed larger than life to many, and marched to the beat of his own drummer. His presence was always known, his stories were always entertaining, and his willingness to help a friend was present to the end. He will be sorely missed in this world.

God’s Peace, Gary - until we see you again…
