Anna Jean  Jenkins
Anna “Jean” Jenkins was born September 18, 1933 in Central City, KY to Mamie and Ora Bourland. She is the youngest sister to Charlie, John and Foley Bourland all deceased. Jean attended high school in KY and her teen and young adult years were spent living in Louisville with her mother. She worked as a receptionist and enjoyed all the city had to offer. She enjoyed shopping, roller derbies and of course the Famous Kentucky Derby. She spoke of Louisville and had many fond memories of that time.

Jean also enjoyed music and dancing and would accompany her brother Foley who was a professional musician to the local clubs he played. She also sang with the USO and brought a smile to many a soldier’s face! She had eyes for one soldier in particular Jesse Lee Jenkins, Jr. who was stationed at Fort Knox, KY and they were married June 18, 1955 in a small ceremony.

Jean moved to her husband Jesse’s home town of Front Royal, VA and later to Manassas where they resided the rest of their lives. Jean worked as an Avon Representative and later many years as a Sergeant in the crossing guard division of the Prince William County Police Department while raising her children. She worked for Prince William Hospital for 19 years until her retirement in 1996. She came out of retirement to join Virginia Radiology Associates where she worked until 2009. Jean loved animals and had many dogs that she referred to as her “babies”.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Jesse Lee Jenkins, Jr. and first born son Ricky Lee.

She is survived by her three remaining children Judy Lynn, Jeffrey Lee and Joni Lisa Jenkins five grandchildren Mica Smith, Jessica Ross, Brittany Smith, Eric Jenkins and Christopher Jenkins as well as one great grandson Peyton Michael Ross. She was much loved and will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, March 5, 2016, 1:00 p.m. at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, Virginia. A reception will follow the service in the funeral home community room.

Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
