Obituary for Marjorie L. Abruzere

Marjorie L. Abruzere
Marjorie “Margie” Louise (Munch) Abruzere, 74, went home to be with the Lord on February 16, 2016, after a long illness from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease. Born October 2, 1941, she was the eldest of three daughters to the late John Charles and Sarah Pauline Munch of Pittsburgh PA. She grew up in Western Pennsylvania where she graduated from Hempfield Area High School in Greensburg, PA. Marjorie went on to attend Grier School for Girls in Tyrone, PA, which was considered a “finishing school” at the time. Upon graduation, she attended Erie Business School becoming a certified Dental Hygienist.

Margie met her husband, Ralph, in 1960 in Hollidaysburg, PA. They married in 1963 and settled in Warrenton, Virginia, as Mr. Abruzere was employed by the Department of Defense. Her husband's career included tours of duty overseas in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, New Delhi, India and Athens, Greece. While abroad, Mrs. Abruzere embraced the culture of each country, making the best of time away from her extended family in the United States, by capturing the essence in her paintings, visiting local areas of interest and making countless friends wherever she went. As an accomplished artist combined with the many years spent overseas, Mrs. Abruzere’s paintings hang in numerous homes all over the world.

Margie's sense of humor and bubbly personality enabled her to make friends easily. Everyone who met her speaks of her laughter, compassion and love for life. Margie’s friendships were lasting and had a meaningful affect in people’s lives.
Upon returning stateside after the overseas tours, both Mr. and Mrs. Abruzere worked at the Independent Hill/PACE East School in Manassas, VA working with intellectually disabled children. Margie considered the students “her” children and often spoke of the lessons she learned from them. These children made a profound impact upon her and were one of the few memories that remained until her passing.

She adored her family. With her husband, Ralph a base haven was provided for many cherished family gatherings, particularly at holidays. Margie opened her home and heart to anyone in need and always made you feel welcome. She played an integral part in her grandchildren’s lives, attending as many events as possible. Laughter abound when family and friends were present. All who gathered will never forget the memories of these times.

Mrs. Abruzere is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Ralph F. Abruzere, of Manassas, Va. She is mourned by three daughters, Robin (Thomas) Lynch, Kelly (Douglas) Easterly, Tracy (David) Price, six grandchildren, T.J. Lynch, Ryan Easterly, Tyler Easterly, Morgan Easterly, Robin Michelle (Adam) McNees, Andrew Price, and two great-grandchildren, Sarah Grace and Austin. Two sisters deeply mourn her passing, Marilyn (Gregg) Sorvas and Virginia (Jim) Ferguson, as do numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, her church family at Chapel Springs Church, many dear friends, and the countless number of students whose lives both she and Ralph touched in positive ways.

Visitation will take place on Monday, February 22, 2016 from 6-8 pm and on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 from 11am-12pm at Baker-Post Funeral Home, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Doug Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Quantico National Cemetery at 2pm in Triangle, Virginia.
