Obituary for Alice Alvarez Visbal

Alice Alvarez Visbal
On the evening of January 10th, 2016, Alice (Lila) Alvarez Visbal peacefully went to be with the Lord. She was 90 years old.

Alice was born in Niagara Falls, New York on September 17, 1925 to Manuel and Dolores Alvarez from Asturias, Spain. She was a beautiful independent and successful career woman. She graduated from Stamford High School in 1943 and began working as a secretary at the Yale and Towne in Stamford, Connecticut. She worked as the payroll supervisor for F. D. Rich Company in Stamford, Connecticut and for 25 years she worked as the payroll supervisor for R. T. Vanderbilt in Norwalk, Connecticut where she retired in 1995. All the employees loved to see Alice's beautiful smile as she personally hand delivered payroll checks to the employees. It made her joyful to see so many employees happy to see her on "pay day."

Alice enjoyed playing golf and was quite good at it. She also loved to travel with family and friends to Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, Greece, Hawaii, and various states in the USA. Going to the movies and having popcorn was a favorite past-time for her and a small group of friends who also went to plays, great restaurants, different art classes and she even played billiards. Her most prized love was visiting her grandchildren and spoiling them whenever she could. She adored watching her seven great grandchildren come into the world and enrich her family. She loved them all so much. Her grandchildren were very close to her and she loved to make them laugh. They were faithful to always visit her and continually find ways to keep her Spanish heritage a part of their families lives.

Alice is preceded in death by her father and mother, Manuel and Dolores Alvarez, her older brother, Manuel Alvarez II, and her sister-in-law, Esther Serra Alvarez.

Alice is survived by her only daughter, Linda Visbal Calvert, her son-in-law, James Allen Calvert, her three grandchildren, Yvette Marcil Jackson and her husband Michael Jackson, Stephanie Marcil Meeker and her husband, David Meeker and Andrew Calvert and his wife, Ashanna Randall Calvert and seven great grandchildren, John Meeker, Ansley Meeker, Aaron Jackson, Sydney Jackson, Ryan Jackson, Noelle Calvert and Juliette Calvert. Also surviving are her niece, Donna Alvarez Shrider and her husband Rick Shrider, nephew Manuel (Manny) Alvarez III and his wife, Kathy Alvarez and her great-nieces Krystal Shrider and Meredith Alvarez Hayes and her husband Matt Hayes, great-nephews Spencer Alvarez and Dylan Alvarez, and great-great niece Eliza Hayes.

Visitation for the family of Alice Visbal will be Tuesday, January 19th, 2016, from 6-8pm at Baker-Post Funeral Home, 10001 Nokesville Rd, Manassas, VA 20110.
