Obituary for Rick O'Brien

Rick  O'Brien
James (Rick) O’Brien, 63, of Gainesville, Virginia, passed away on June 25, 2015.

He was born on May 2, 1952 in Alexandria, Virginia to James W. and Marion S. O’Brien. At the age of 12, his family moved to Manassas, Virginia, where he graduated from Osbourn High School with the class of 1970. He also attended Northern Virginia Community College.

Rick had an extensive career with McDonald’s Corporation. He began working there at the age of 15, and he worked for the Corporation for seventeen years. Eventually, he became an owner operator, and managed his own stores for twenty years, along with his wife, Nancy.

Rick loved to serve his community and especially enjoyed working with children. He was a former President of the Kiwanis Club of Manassas, President of the Kiwanis Foundation, and was instrumental in helping to open the Carteret Boys and Girls Club of Manassas, where he served as President the first year that it was opened.

Whenever he was able, he loved to play tennis, and enjoyed traveling to any place that had a beach. He enjoyed going out to dinner and a movie with friends, and loved to be surrounded by his family.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Brown O’Brien, his daughter Ashley Foster (Kevin), son, Justin O’Brien (Kerri), daughter Amanda Bowie (Seth), and daughter Adelynn Burgbacher (Levi). He leaves four grandchildren; Abigail Foster, Kaitlyn Foster, Macon O’Brien, and Camden Bowie.

He is also survived by two brothers; Mike O’Brien (Noel), John O’Brien (Lisa), nieces; Chelsea and Elaine O’Brien; father-in-law, John K. Brown, Jr., and brother-in-law, John K. Brown III (Kristin) and nephews, John K. Brown IV (Chris), Joshua Brown (Michelle), Logan Brown, Noah Brown, and Ethan Brown.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at 5:00 p.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home, 10001 Nokesville Rd, Manassas, VA. A service will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Rudy Tucker, Jr. officiating.

A reception will take place immediately following the service in the funeral home community room.
