Obituary for Joan M. Ziegelmeyer

Joan M. Ziegelmeyer, 72, of Gainesville, passed away at her home on April 19, 2012, surrounded by her family.

Joan was born to Joseph and Emma Zakrajsek in Cleveland, Ohio on November 4, 1939. Her cherished husband Edward Ziegelmeyer pre-deceased her in 1998.

She leaves behind her beloved children and their spouses – Lawrence Ziegelmeyer and Jane Russom; Carol Kelley and Angelo Angelopulos; and Karen and Edward Butler. She also leaves behind her dear granddaughter, Emma, who was the light of her life.

Joan was also devoted to her sister and brother-in-law, Emmaline and Jerry Michalski, as well as her nephews and niece, Dale Ponsart, Randy Ponsart, Laura Burrows and Joe Ponsart. She moved to Virginia in 1999 to be closer to her children, but a big piece of her heart remained in Cleveland, with her loving cousins and their families.

Joan’s life was marked by a deep faith. She most relished time spent with family, whether dancing polkas in the back yard in Cleveland; watching her favorite sporting events; or playing make-believe with her granddaughter. She was love and devotion personified and she will be sorely missed.

Graveside and interment services will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Stonewall Memorial Gardens, 12004 Lee Highway, Manassas, VA 20109.

Memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to Capital Caring Hospice, 2900 Telestar Court, Falls Church, VA 22042 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, under the direction of Michael Ward. Please sign the guestbook at www.bakerpostfh.com .
