Condolences

Condolence From: Patrick Brew
Condolence: I know this is a little late, but I am sorry for your loss. As a ninth grader in 1969-70 at Good Counsel HS I had Algebra I with Mr. L. I enjoyed his class so much that it later influenced me to major in math education at the University of Maryland. I am now in my 31st year as a math and computer science teacher currently teaching at West Point Middle School, not too far from Ossining. It's funny how forty-six years later, I still remember his class. That says a lot about Mr. L.

Condolence: To the Latalladi family - My sympathies are with you as your mourn the loss of Mr. L. I have such fond memories of his physics class - way back in the 70's. I remember thinking that I certainly did not want to take physics!! But I truly LOVED his class and found him to be so entertaining! May your memories and the Lord comfort you now and in the future. Condolence From: Jerry Foster
Condolence: Dear Mrs. L. Jerry Foster and my Mother Edith Feigenbaum. I moved to Simi Valley California and later entered the USN and retired. A quick brush up. I am however sad to see what happened to poor Mr. L. Both of you were wonderful teachers to me. Share a memory. I remember when I was in your class Spanish one the administration announced in the old Woodbridge that both you and Mr. L were getting married. When you heard that you smiled. I take a chance but my email is thumbtip1@roadrunner.com please contact me and I would love to call and speak. Again I am so sorry of your loss. Fondly Jerry GiGi (Mom) and Annie. I lost my wife January 19th 2010 to cancer. I will leave photos with you. Gi Gi was a nick name which stood for Great Grandmother. Sadly Suzanne's family are out of my life and acted like animals when my wife passed away in this very house. When Suzanne took her terminal breath while my wife was in peace the girls were trying to remove things from the house and I tossed them out. Enough said but I will say you will never forget but learn to live with your loss. Please write me so we can talk a bit. I'll call if you will allow. With Sympathy Jerry

Condolence: While we were studying waves he encouraged us to get our face close to the shallow pan of water ... so we could see?/hear? better ... he then struck a tuning fork ... ""get close"" or you might miss Iit ... he touched the vibrating tuning fork to the water's surface ... and water splashed everywhere ... including into the face of an unsuspecting volunteer. :-)

Condolence: My condolences to the Latalladi family. Mr L. was one of my favorite teachers at Woodbridge and I know many others felt the same. He was a fun and warm individual who always made us laugh even as we were learning. I will never forget the universal constant which he named for himself: the distance from one end of the universe to the other = one ""L."" So long Mr. L - you will be missed.

Condolence: We really appreciate you sharing these memories Derek. I know my dad took pride in how he tried to teach physics. He tried to incorporate as many experiments and demonstrations as possible. I remember a few times as a child seeing him tinkering with some toys at home and wanting to play with them. It didn't take me long to learn that when they were going to be used for his ""physics experiments I would only get to play too if I was very careful. He would then take the time to explain to me how he was going to use them to teach in class. That was pretty cool. And his sense of humor... He never stopped making us laugh at home either. :)

Condolence: I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Hector was a great guy. I enjoyed working with him and Bev. at Woodbridge high. I'm so glad to hear about how nice all the Latatladi kids turned out. I'm sure they are all a 'chip' off the old block. Hector would have been proud. As long as you carry him in your memory he will always be around. Lil Keys WSHS counselor

Condolence From: Maureen Sullivan
Condolence: I too had Mr. L as a physics teacher at WSHS when I was a Jr (81-82). He was a quite a character and would always inject humor as well as interesting examples into his lectures and word problems. I still remember problem about the pig who needed to cross the river - I think her family was on the other side. Well this was a very smart pig and she knew that if she tried to cross the river by entering the the river across from her desired end point that the river current would carry her down past her goal. So she instead measured the current moved up the river from her goal and had an easy swim/float diagonally across the river ... think vectors were in there somewhere. :) His demonstrations were interesting and I think he once flew off a spinning stool when he lowered the two large dictionaries that he held at arms' length (centripetal force?). Mr.L was affable and went with the flow- during one exam we were allowed to bring in a 3 x 5 card with equations. Derek and Bruce made a 3 FOOT x 5 FOOT ""card."" Mr. L posted it in the front of the class during the exam and let them use it. He always called us by our last names -- Miss (Ms.?) Sullivan Mr. Toten ... not sure why. Mr. L was dedicated to his family and still was able to be a prepared and engaging teacher despite all of his trips to the hospital. I remember hearing the story of a trip to see Santa that did not go so well - Santa scared Mr. L's young kids. So long Mr. L - Fair Winds and Following Seas. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Maureen Sullivan '83. San Francisco CA

Condolence: For 6 years I hosted a picnic for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families. Danny Hec and Bev attended most of those get togethers. What I enjoyed most about meeting Hec was seeing the love he had for his family and having thoroughly satisfying intellectual conversations on a diversity of topics. Fare thee well. May the four winds blow you safely home. My love and warm thoughts to the Latalladi family.
